Tarantesys is a project created by Gianfranco Narracci in 2008. It has its roots in the popular culture of southern Italy with Mediterranean influences, from which it draws instruments and sounds, and promotes the dissemination of vocal, rhythmic, and choreographic expressive forms (tammurriata, pizzica, tarantella). The concert part of Tarantesys consists of traditional songs, including those in the Griko and Grecanico languages, rearranged while respecting the original expressive forms, as well as original compositions.
Special guest Mattia Manco
Mattia Manco plays the accordion and is among the last speakers of Griko (an ancient dialect of Greek origin still spoken in some villages of Salento). He has dedicated his life to the composition of new songs and poems in Griko, trying to give this language a new lease of life, through the arts, since it is now tending to disappear into colloquial speech.
