Screening of the Documentary: Jenin, Jenin (2002)
As a ceasefire takes effect in Gaza, Israeli incursions in the West Bank continue to intensify. Jenin has been for decades, and still is, a site of Israeli aggression and collective punishment for Palestinians. As Jenin comes under Israeli attacks once again, we remember that these incursions are nothing new for the Israeli Occupation Army.
"Jenin, Jenin" is a documentary film directed by Mohammed Bakri, released in 2002. The film portrays the aftermath of the Israeli military operation in the Jenin refugee camp during April 2002, known as Operation Defensive Shield.
As Jenin camp remained besieged by the Israeli army, and while journalists and UN commissions were not allowed in to cover what was happening, Bakri decided to sneak into Jenin with his camera to ask residents: "What happened?". The result was the documentary "Jenin Jenin", featuring residents' testimonies of horror, destruction, and resilience.
