Tempi, Novi Sad, Kočani: Corruption or Neoliberalism?

BAB 2025 (15/5) event-discussion : Tempi, Novi Sad, Kočani: Corruption or neolibarilsm?
This event takes place in the wake of the state crimes in Tempi, Novi Sad and Kochani and the mobilisations that followed. These events, with their differences and similarities, come to confirm in the harshest way the general feeling that our lives are expendable. In all three cases, it was the state that was generally held responsible, since, under the previous social contract, it is still recognised as the political actor that must ensure the social reproduction of the population and the provision of a basic security of the basic infrastructure. It is this social contract that is disintegrating before our eyes, and the same happens to political certainties and classifications that have hitherto existed. The movements that have emerged bear the characteristics of the movements of our time. They are transclass, they are not mediated by some political organization, they transcend the left-right division and often send out confused messages. Messages that are difficult to unravel, as people's expectations are being revised and predictions about the new role of the state in this global crisis are rather premature. Nevertheless, we must make an attempt to unravel things as much as we can, to map out the terrain on which we stand. The title of the event refers to two of the main political discourses that emerged from the demonstrations, the discourse on state corruption and the discourse on neoliberalism.
